In this article on SAP Security Automation I would like to take a look at the future of automated processes in the SAP Security area. For many companies, the topic of security automation still offers a lot of potential in terms of time savings and process optimisation. Our daily work environment offers numerous tasks that could be handled excellently automatically. For this reason, in this article I present two of the possibilities that already exist in the broad area of security automation. Security Automation via SAP Security Check The first option of Security Automation, which I want to introduce here, is the automatic verification of the existing permissions. Have you ever wondered who has critical permissions in your SAP system? And have you ever tried to do this by hand? Depending on the level of expertise and experience of the privilege administrator, this is a time-consuming work. If an audit is also announced and the SAP system is to be checked for critical permissions and segregation of duties, then it is very difficult to meet all requirements and secure the eligibility landscape in this respect. For this reason, various vendors provide solutions to automate the verification of the permission system with regard to critical permissions and segregation of duties using tool support. This allows permission administrators to use their valuable time to correct the errors rather than just looking for them. For example, we use a tool that runs through the verification of over 250 rules. We then get an evaluation of which rules are violated and which points are correct. A simple example of such rules is the use of the SAP_ALL profile. Another would be to grant the jump permission in debugging (S_DEVELOP permission object with the ACTVT = 02 field). These are two relatively simple examples of Security Check tools' rulebook. In addition, queries are also made, which are located in the field of Segregation of Duties. Using this tool allowed us to move from manual validation of critical permissions to an automatic process.
SWEQADM Administration of the event queue
As a member of the SAP Basis specialist team, your responsibilities will include the design, operation, administration, support and installation of an extensive SAP system landscape with over 50 systems for 17 universities and 2 institutions in Lower Saxony. Furthermore, you will monitor the SAP system landscape as well as its interfaces to external systems and carry out measures within the scope of software lifecycle management (e.g. note maintenance, support stacks, release upgrades) and change management (e.g. hardware migration, transport system and documentation). As part of the SAP Basis team, you will be the contact person for organizational and technical questions of the universities and in 3rd-level support for user inquiries.
Understanding the structure and functioning of the system is especially important for IT administration. It is not for nothing that "SAP Basis Administrator" is a separate professional field. On the page www.sap-corner.de you will find useful information on this topic.
INTRODUCTION A growing number of SAP-based departments are facing major changes and challenges within the SAP product portfolio as well as in their own task environment. These result from influences of digitalisation, digital transformation, new technologies such as cloud computing or big data, but also developments such as customer experience or the Internet of Things. In order to overcome the challenges and to transform the existing SAP basis, recommendations for action are grouped in seven thematic areas. These topics cover the areas of skills and roles (cloud and supplier management, strengthening of the technology architect, focus on project work), marketing and self-understanding (creation of a service catalogue, regular exchange with the CIO, renaming of the SAP basis), new technologies and innovation (test and innovation lab, proactive & regular training), organisation in change (development of the two subject areas close to structure and application-orientated , virtual teams of experts), standardisation and automation (automation of routine tasks, outtasking of rare tasks), "cloudability", outsourcing & outtasking (assessment of usefulness for the cloud, use of appropriate service forms) and IT roadmap (influence of own IT roadmap). By reflecting on the thematic areas, methods and possibilities for implementing the recommendations are presented.
The "Shortcut for SAP Systems" tool is ideal for doing many tasks in the SAP basis more easily and quickly.
Together with you, we create a catalog of measures to ensure the optimal operation of your SAP landscape.
So much information... how can you keep it so that you can find it again when you need it? Scribble Papers is a "note box" that makes this very easy.
For mid-sized companies in particular, it is crucial to first identify corporate goals, technical conditions of the IT architecture and individual requirements.
