Installation/upgrade of the SAP systems based on HANA Platform
Using profile parameters, we can configure everything in the SAP system. Some parameters are dynamically modifiable, which means that they can be changed without restarting the system. However, these changes are not permanent, i.e. after a system restart, the pre-set profile parameters are used again. Other parameters, however, are static, i.e. only with a restart and only permanently modifiable. Most profile parameters for memory allocation are actually static. However, there is the possibility to adapt it dynamically with the report RSMEMORY. Read how to find out if a parameter is static or dynamic and how to use the RSMEMORY report to dynamically adjust the memory allocation parameters. RZ11 - Maintenance of profile parameters The transaction RZ10 gives us information about profiles, which in turn contain different profile parameters. In the transaction RZ11, however, it is possible to view information about individual parameters, provided that you know their name. As you can read in our Memory Parameter Post, the following 5 parameters are particularly important for memory management: abap/heap_area_total abap/heap_area_dia abap/heap_area_nondia ztta/roll_extension_dia ztta/roll_extension_nondia If you don't know exactly what a parameter might be called, it's worth using the F4 help here. For example, for the parameter abab/heap_area_dia, the RZ11 outputs: Description of the parameter abap/heap_area_dia in the RZ11 As you can see here, it is not a dynamic parameter. Now it is rather sorry if you want to test whether there is enough memory available to restart the system again and again. For this purpose, there is the RSMEMORY report. RSMEMORY - Test your memory allocation strategy Report RSMEMORY Report View No documentation or value help available here, but SAP documentation tells you how to use the report. This first distinguishes between dialogue and non-dialogue work processes. That is, in the first area you can set Extended Memory (Storage Class 1) and Heap Memory (Storage Class 2) for Dialogue Workprocesses, and in the second area you can set it for non-dialogue workprocesses.

The SAP basis requires a separation layer to upstream and downstream IT departments, which is clearly defined. In the direction of the infrastructure, for example, this can be the upper edge of the operating system. This distinction must also be drawn in the direction of application development. Here there are various services offered today by the SAP basis, which are more closely related to application, such as control of background processing, transport or also the automation of certain activities. In principle, it is necessary to examine which tasks can continue to be carried out in the SAP basis due to the requirements and which can be given in expert units.

If your system is already above SAP NetWeaver Release 7.0, then you must either import SAP Note 1731549 or a corresponding Support Package. Afterwards, when creating new users, it is no longer possible to assign user names that are only composed of variants of spaces or other invisible special characters. Important: Changes to already existing users with these names or their deletion option are not affected by this! The SAP Note also adds the customizing switch BNAME_RESTRICT, whereupon you can control yourself whether alternative spaces are allowed to appear in certain places in the user name. For this, the following values must be set in the customizing table PRGN_CUST: NO = The alternative spaces are still allowed in the user name. ALL = The character set is reduced to a defined range, excluding certain special characters because they have specific meanings in certain operating systems or databases. This predefined character set is: ABCDEFGHIJKLNMOPQRSTUVWXYZ_0123456789,;-§&()={[]}+#. FME = The letters F, M and E stand for Front, Middle and End. With an 'X' in this three-digit switch value you can now explicitly specify at which position in the user name no wide spaces and control characters may occur. All combinations are possible, e.g.: XME = None of these special characters may occur at the BEGINNING of the user name. XMX = In the user name none of these special characters may occur at the BEGINNING and at the END. FME = One of these special characters may occur at any position in the user name (this corresponds to the default setting, i.e. as if no entry was maintained in PRGN_CUST for the switch). SAP recommends the use of the value ALL.

SAP Basis refers to the administration of SAP system that includes activities like installation and configuration, load balancing, and performance of SAP applications running on Java stack and SAP ABAP. This includes the maintenance of different services related to database, operating system, application and web servers in SAP system landscape and stopping and starting the system. Here you can find some useful information about SAP Basis: www.sap-corner.de.

People tend to forget how important this element of the architecture is. The structure associated with it often proves to be especially important for companies that want to implement the SAP system for the first time.

Tools such as "Shortcut for SAP Systems" are extremely useful in basic administration.

The CRM consultant was responsible for the SAP CRM system, the SRM consultant for the SAP SRM, etc.

To store all the information on the subject of SAP - and others - in a knowledge database, Scribble Papers is suitable.

In addition, there is the ACL file secinfo, which allows to configure which users can start an external programme.
